Chiang Mai: ville coup de coeur / in love with Chiang Mai

Plethora of memories during our 5 days in Chiang Mai; we love it!
Chiang Mai is located in northern Thailand and is the second largest city thai (after Bangkok) . However, without the crazy and very modern style of its big sister (no skyscrapers, old town with ramparts where it is good to wander around on motorcycles).

----

Jour 1

Day 1
Arrival in Chiang Mai in the afternoon (after 5 hours in a bus with the air co giving up on us, real tough!).
Discovery of the suburbs, its 'Carrefour-mall' (yes yes:)) and McDo. In the evening, visit of the Saturday market: various food and singing show.

Jour 2

Day 2
Relaxing Sunday; Australian Grand Prix for Bashe, search of "The" Hotel for Val. She finds it, and with a pool please. It is getting very hot (35-38 degrees) and the price is still more or less in our
backpackers budget :).
Evening: Night Bazaar and Pantip Plaza (ie: high-tech paradise (uh, figure of speech :)) for Bashe).

Jour 3

Day 3
We start the day with a fully-loaded breakfast in a small organic coffee (Chiang Mai is full with small boho-chic cafes and we love it) ... As we're about to go on a big adventure on our super scooter (less than 10 pounds for 3 days)!
Direction Mae Sa Loop: waterfalls and mountains (Discovering Thai landscapes North of Green Mountain has the eye and small steps / villages in different corners) : it is beautiful and Bashe is back to childhood:)
Rare but true: 30 minutes of rain (monsoon type) in the mountains .. it's been quite a while :)

Jour 4

Day 4
Another big good breakfast, visit of the huge Chiang Mai zoo (a must see if you're around) and Doi Suthep (a small mountain like 'Mont Ventoux; in France where a few brave cyclists makes the ascension valiantly).
Small food detour to a local market (not a touristic one and menu for less than 2 pounds!). No no we do not eat all the time but it's so good and stalls are everywhere. Finally Muai Thai demo to close our day in style (Val doesn't understand it but, well...).

Jour 5

Day 5
Relaxation time in a hot spring
(over 100 degrees at source), East of Chiang Mai and back to the old city to visit some wat (temples) (there are 300 in total, we only did 2-3 but it already gives us a good idea but it's deadly hot outside; the pool awaits us:)).

Jour 6

Day 6
We enjoyed one last time our beautiful pool and our
breakfast HQ and it is time to go to Chiang Rai. We were lucky, the last bus had a few places left: first class, TV and cookies .. Let's go!
